HOW TO PARTICIPATE

How Does UVE Work?

Here at UVE, musicians have access to all materials they need to create a recording of their individual part. After musicians submit their individual part recordings, editors on our team will sync all tracks up, mix the recordings together into a cohesive track, and then finally master the final product to then be released on our official YouTube channel and on Streaming Services.

This is a very complicated operation, but we have done a lot to make sure the process is as streamlined as possible and as easy as possible for participants.

What can I record?

If you are a member of our Discord, you will have access to every single active project running inside of UVE. Website-only members will only be able to record for Public Domain and Original Composition projects that are hosted on the website due to our agreements with many music publishers.

For website-only members, visit our Homepage to view ongoing projects. You can then click on each project to be taken to its materials page.

For Discord members, after accepting our rules and getting your "!musician" role, you will have access to the group of project channels. To find projects that use your instrument, you can either navigate by going to the individual project channels and viewing the pinned "project post" or by looking in the channel #current-projects.

How do I get the sheet music?

For each project, there are 3 things you need to create a successful recording: first, the sheet music. For projects hosted on the website, there will be a link on each project to page to a folder of sheet music. It is your choice on what part to play. View the sheet music on your computer, download to a PDF, or print.

UVE is one of the very few 100% legally operating virtual ensembles running right now, and agreements with music publishing houses allow us to play a large variety of music, from Broadway to Disney and beyond. Due to our special agreements with these publishers, we are required to distribute sheet music privately to prevent unauthorized duplication of materials. To participate in one of these projects, fill out the project Part Request Form which asks for contact info (to send parts to), the part you want, and how you wish to be credited. Within 48 hours, your part and all other necessary materials will be sent to you.

Along with the sheet music, a click track is needed that so your recording can be synced along with the other submitters' recordings. These click tracks are available on website project pages and in project posts in our Discord; our guide is directly below.

Finally, a submission link. To make it easier on the mixers/editors, project hosts will have submission links where you can drag and drop your final recording. These Dropbox/Google Form links can be found in each project post and on each website project page.

Recording

After acquiring the sheet music and click track, it's time to record! There are many free recording programs available to use; we recommend Audacity. Splice or rerecord your part as many times as you need. Once you’ve got a full performance recorded, remove the click track and export the audio as a .wav file (recommended submission file format).

Phone recordings are also acceptable; we know not everyone has a microphone or is able to record directly into a computer. Send your recording(s) as-is, or edit and splice them in a digital audio workstation (DAW) or Audacity if you choose to.
